Our ProJEct

In March of 1911 after the Premiere of "Tristan und Isolde" in Madrid, the Wagnerians of the city established The Wagnerian Society of Madrid.

In just two years, the Group reached 2000 members. The president was the count of Alba and many illustrious citizens became members of the Society.

The Society put on Conferences and concerts in Madrid and publisched works about Wagner. Wth the support and approval of the King Alfonso XIII, they introduced and designed a Wagnerian Theater that would have been near the Monasterio de Piedra. This Theater was going to be built for the 100th Anniversary of Richard Wagner's birth. The goal was to perform Wagner's Last COMPOSITIONS from the artist, it could have been the Spanish Bayreuth. Unfortunately, the first Wagnerian Society of Madrid disappeared too early and the project could not be done.

The new Wagnerian Society of Madrid (AWM) has now the support and solidarity from many Wagnerians and distinguished Honorific Members. The spirit of the first wagnerian society is alive again: interest and enthusiasm for the extensive work of Richard Wagner.
