A.W.M. Honorary Members
The Wagner Society of Madrid enjoys fantastic support and contribution from its Honorary Members. They are great personalities and professionals in the music world. They love all music, but have particular passion for the work of Richard Wagner. To all of them...THANK YOU.
| Jesús López Cobos, Conductor and musical director |
|
Jesús López Cobos was made Musical Director at the Teatro Real (Madrid) in 2003 , he conducted it until 2010. His great admiration for the work of Richard Wagner led to him become an Honorary Member of AWM. His father was a member of the Wagner Society of Madrid from 1911-1915, so naturally, Maestro Cobos, is delighted to be part of the "next generation" of the Wagnerian Society of Madrid.
We would like to thank him for his continued support and great musical passion. It is an honor for us to count him as a member and it is always a pleasure to hear his opinions and knowledge about the music of Wagner. He is not just a great conductor and a true Wagnerian, but also a wonderful person and truly loved by all members of the AWM. |

| René Pape, Bass |
|
In January of 2008, the great bass singer Rene Pape came to Madrid to sing the part of King Marke in ‘Tristan and Isolde’. As Maestro Jesús López Cobos referred to him, he is ‘one of the best Wagnerian basses in the history of opera singing’. Barenboim, the eternal Pavarotti and many other music lovers agree with the Maestro.
In 2008 Rene Pape became a member of AWM. He sent us a signed copy of his first recording ‘God, Kings and Demons’, and has participated in many dinners and meetings. The most recent occasion was during his fantastic premiere as Wotan in Milan. You can read a full interview with him in our Wagnerian pages.
In 2011 he will release his second recording, featuring purely the music of Wagner. This recording will be another opportunity to celebrate his unique talent.

Placido Domingo was born in Madrid. He is a great Wagnerian … and of course, a world class tenor. In 2009 he became an Honorary Member of AWM, saying yes before we had finished asking! It is a great honor for us to have his support and continued enthusiasm and we look forward to sharing more great moments together
